Σε ηλικία 62 ετών «έφυγε» από τη ζωή ο σαξοφωνίστας και ιδρυτικός μέλος του συγκροτήματος.
Ο σαξοφωνίστας και ιδρυτικό μέλος των UB40, Brian Travers πέθανε στα 62 του χρόνια.
Ο μουσικός πέθανε στο σπίτι του στο Moseley στις 22 Αυγούστου και δίπλα του ήταν η οικογένειά του, όπως αναφέρει η ανακοίνωση του θανάτου του.
Ο Travers έδινε μάχη με τον καρκίνο στον εγκέφαλο, έχοντας χειρουργηθεί στο παρελθόν δυο φορές.
«Με μεγάλη μας λύπη ανακοινώνουμε τον χαμό του συντρόφου μας, αδελφού μας και ιδρυτικού στελέχους των UB40 και θρύλου της μουσικής Brian David Travers», τόνισαν οι UB40 σε ανακοίνωσή τους.
Ο Brian Travers είχε διαγνωστεί, την άνοιξη του 2019, με όγκο στον εγκέφαλο με αποτέλεσμα να μην μπορέσει να συμμετάσχει στην περιοδεία για τα 40 του χρόνια.Όπως είχε γίνει γνωστό τότε ο διάσημος μουσικός έπαθε μια κρίση στο σπίτι του, μεταφέρθηκε σε νοσοκομείο και οι εξετάσεις έδειξαν πως έχει δύο όγκους στον εγκέφαλο. Η χειρουργική επέμβαση προγραμματίστηκε για την Πέμπτη 28 Μαρτίου 2019, μια μόλις μέρα πριν ξεκινήσει η εορταστική περιοδεία των UB40.
«Με μεγάλη λύπη δεν θα μπορέσω να συμμετάσχω στην περιοδεία για την 40ή επέτειο μας. Εργάστηκαν απίστευτα σκληρά για να τελειοποιήσουν τα τραγούδια στις προετοιμασίες για την ζωντανή πρεμιέρα του νέου μας άλμπουμ «For The Many». Ακούγονται υπέροχοι, όμως θα είμαι εκεί εν πνεύματι, να τους επευφημώ καθώς αναρρώνω και σκεπτόμενος όλους τους υπέροχους ανθρώπους που μας έχουν στηρίξει τα τελευταία 40 χρόνια και για τους οποίους είμαι εξαιρετικά περήφανος να προσμετρώ ως φίλους» είχε δηλώσει τότε ο ίδιος φανερά συγκινημένος
Ο νέος frontman Doyle προσχώρησε στην πιο πρόσφατη σύνθεση των UB40 των Robin Campbell, Jimmy Brown, Earl Falconer, Norman Hassan, Laurence Parry, Tony Mullings και Martin Meredith.
Εν τω μεταξύ, η Travers έχει επιζήσει από τη σύζυγό της Lesley, την κόρη του Lisa και τον γιο της Jamie, σύμφωνα με τη δήλωση του UB40.

The group’s saxophonist was taken to hospital last Tuesday after suffering a seizure at his home, with subsequent brain scans revealing two tumours.
Travers will now undergo surgery the day before UB40’s tour starts and has been advised by doctors that his recovery will take six months.
Travers said, “It is with great regret that I shall be unable to join my band mates in UB40 on our 40th anniversary tour, the guys have worked incredibly hard to perfect the songs in preparation for the live premier of our new album ‘For the Many’. They sound great, but I shall be there in spirit, cheering them on from my convalescence and thinking of all the wonderful people out there who have supported us for the last 40 years, who I am now incredibly proud to count as friends. I’ve had a great life with no regrets and have absolutely nothing to add to a bucket list except getting over this and getting back to the thing I love, playing music to anyone who wants to listen and expressing myself through painting & sculpture. It’s been a huge privilege and I thank you all for the opportunity to ‘live the dream’.”
The band has confirmed the tour, which starts on Friday 29th March at Portsmouth’s Guildhall, will still go ahead.
UB40 said, “We’re deeply saddened that Brian, our lifelong friend and founding member of UB40, is unable to join us for our celebratory UK tour. We know he will be missed by all but his health and wellbeing come first, and we are sure our friends and fans will join us in wishing Brian a full and speedy return to health, and return to us.”
With forty Top 40 UK hits and record sales of over 100 million worldwide, UB40 are recognised as one of the UK’s most successful bands of all-time.
The group’s latest album ‘For The Many’ was released on March 15th 2019.
